Not a Mom again … I’ve still got just the two kids! But as any Mom of two teenage daughters will tell you, that’s a lot of teenage daughters!
I won’t tell you that touring as a musician this summer and mothering these two kids are mutually exclusive, but … well, yes I am going to say that. As much as I would love to be on the road, hitting new towns, meeting new people, playing new songs, and not driving in ice and snow … I’m doing a very important job. This summer, I am at home and I am being a Mom. I couldn’t be happier. :)
How I Spent My Summer Vacation
I am teaching a 15 year-old girl how to drive. By this time next year, a subtle and silent shift will have occurred in our household; my oldest daughter will have her own driver’s license, her own car and a full-time summer job. Things will never ever be the same.
My youngest is making the change from dance to tumbling/gymnastics/cheer. She’s leaving dance behind and following her heart. A change is a-comin’ and my husband and I can feel it. It’s good.
So Let’s Build Mom A Music Room!
So my husband suggested that as long as I’m home, why not finish off the basement?! And we could save money by making ME the subcontractor. So … we’re building Mama a music room! Does anyone know an electrician? Because for the love of money, I can’t get an electrician to return my calls …jeez. As of today the framing and the plumbing are in! It’s going well and we are picking out paint. It’s so exciting and I’m fortunate that soon I will have a dedicated space to write my songs in. Every artist deserves a space they can call their own; where they don’t have to tidy up and they can leave today’s progress until tomorrow and no one will disturb it. I’m finally going to have a real space!
So you’ll see me out on the road again in the fall, but for now I’m being a mom. And a subcontractor.
Please “Like” my Facebook page if you can. I’d be forever grateful! Click here!
